The man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and her mother has fired both his attorney and doctor assigned to him.

In Brown County court on Tuesday, Jacob Cayer, 29 of Ashwaubenon, told the judge that he is mentally fit to stand trial and fired his attorney and court appointed doctor.

Cayer said that he fired both people because they wanted to argue that he is suffering from a mental illness. The judge disagreed on Tuesday and ordered him to go through a mental evaluation.

Cayer pleaded not guilty due to nature of mental illness back in June.

Police in Hobart say Cayer fatally stabbed his ex-girlfriend and her mother in June of 2016. They say when they got on scene, they found Cayer hiding in the woods behind the home.

Jacob Cayer is due back in Brown County Court for a mental competency hearing on September 12th.

Cayer also asked the judge for his bond to be reduced from $5 million to $3 million, but that request was denied.
