A dead crow found in Manitowoc County on June 25 tested positive for West Nile virus.
It's the first bird that tested positive for West Nile since surveillance began on May 1.
"The positive bird means that residents of Manitowoc County need to be more vigilant in their personal protective measures to prevent mosquito bites," said Amy Wergin, the county's Public Health Director.
West Nile spreads through infected mosquito bites.
The county recommends many tips to avoid the disease, including applying bug spray liberally and draining standing water sources.
80% of those infected do not get sick. Those who do usually suffer from mild symptoms like fever, headache, muscle ache, rash and fatigue.
2016 saw one case of West Nile infection in Manitowoc County, with 13 cases across Wisconsin.
