Christmas in July Red Kettle Campaign begins in Manitowoc County

The need for donations at local pantries doesn't get a summer break, so the Manitowoc County Salvation Army is bringing back a sight and sound typically heard during the winter months.

It's all part of the Christmas in July Red Kettle Campaign. It takes place from Wednesday, July 5 to Saturday, July 8. It's a short campaign to help raise funds to continue to fill the need for help in Manitowoc County.

"This is actually the first time we've done a Christmas in July campaign, and looking at the funds we were spending, we needed a way to recoup some of those funds as well as help to supply our pantry with some money," said Kyle Bryntesen, the Business Development Director of the Salvation Army of Manitowoc County.

Eight weeks ago on May 10, the Manitowoc Fire Department was called to Parkview Haven. One woman died and about 85 people were displaced in the fire. The Salvation Army says they're still caring for some people displaced by the fire.

The American Red Cross said it could still be a couple months before tenants get back into Parkview Haven.

On June 7, another fire broke out at the Riverview Apartments, driving the need for volunteers and those to help their neighbor.

Red Kettles will be placed at nine locations in Manitowoc County, both in Manitowoc and Two Rivers.
