Eight families are out of their home after an apartment fire in Green Bay.
The fire broke out just before 8 p.m. Monday on the 2000 block of Vine Street at Green Meadows Village.
When crews arrived on scene heavy smoke and flames could be seen shooting from the basement.
Firefighters said everybody got out safe but the residents weren't allowed to go home overnight.
The Red Cross was called in to help.
"It's a tragic situation. Nobody wants to go through it," said Renee Geyer, a volunteer with the Red Cross. "We need to help our neighbors."
Fire crews said there is mostly smoke damage to the apartment units.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
