Police have identified the woman killed in a shooting early Thursday morning in Appleton.

Annie Ford, 48, was shot multiple times and died from her injuries, police said.

Officers were called around 2 a.m. to a duplex on the 3300 block of East Canary Street.

When they arrived on scene, they found a man in the driveway of the home who told them they would find a woman inside with gunshot wounds, officers said.

Police found Ford with multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

An autopsy was completed Thursday morning in Milwaukee. The results are pending, according to Appleton Police Sgt. Dave Lund.

A 58-year-old man who lived in the duplex was arrested for the shooting. He is being held at the Outagamie County Jail on charges of first degree intentional homicide and recklessly endangering safety.

NBC26 is choosing not to name the man until he's been officially charged.

Appleton Police responded twice to the home on Wednesday night, Sgt. Lund exolained. One incident was described as domestic and the other as a disturbance.

The man and woman were allegedly arguing that night over property.

Police did not believe the situation warranted the mandatory arrest law for domestic situations, Sgt. Lund said. However, this was an act of domestic violence, police said.

"What the community doesn't always understand is that domestic violence is an extremely volatile situation," said Beth Schnorr, Harbor House Executive Director. "Domestic violence is a pattern of calculated acts for the purpose of power and control. It is rarely an isolated incident."
