An 18-year-old Manitowoc man is behind bars after allegedly putting a gun to his ex-girlfriend's head and pulling the trigger, but luckily the gun didn't fire.
Officers responded to the 2400 block of Franklin Street around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday for a report of someone pulling a gun and trying to shoot someone, police said.
When officers arrived, the woman told them her ex-boyfriend had come to her apartment and she met him outside. However, she became scared of him and started to run away, police said.
He eventually caught up with her and allegedly put her in a headlock before putting a gun to her head, police said. He told her to "say her prayers because she was going to die," according to police documents.
He tried to pull the trigger but it didn't work, officers said. The man's friend then tried to intervene and the man pointed the gun at him instead.
The man had stolen the guns from that friend, who he had been staying with, according to police.
The 18-year-old held his friend hostage and told him to drive to Sheboygan, then came back to Manitowoc where he was arrested, according to police.
Officers located the suspect at his home, recovering two handguns on scene.
The suspect is being held in Manitowoc County Jail on charges of attempted 2nd degree intentional homicide, 2 counts of false imprisonment, 2 counts of 1st degree recklessly endangering safety, physical abuse of a child and disorderly conduct with a weapon.
NBC26 is not naming the man until he's been formally charged.
He's being held on a $50,000 cash bond and cannot have contacts with the victim or witnesses. He also cannot have any sort of weapon.
